New Find My Friends 4.0 Update Available For iOS 8 Devices

Last updated: September 18, 2014 at 17:10 pm

A new version of Find My Friends app is available and it has been updated to support iOS 8 firmware.

So if you have already downloaded and installed iOS 8 on your iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches, go ahead and check the App Store.

You will be surprised to see so many app updates available. Find My Friends should be one among them.

New Find My Friends 4.0 Update: What’s New In This Version?

When you update to the new version, you will notice that Find My Friends offers only a few new benefits. First, it has made your friends list more transparent — you can now move all of your friends to the Apple iCloud account.

Another addition to Find My Friends 4.0 is that it integrates with your messages. So, for example, if you receive a text message from your friend (who has Find My Friend activated), you will be able to trace the exact location from where the text message was sent. This happens right in your Messages app.

How useful is this? If you are a parent worried about your kid in school, you can obtain the location whenever he/she messages you. For the rest of us, we can find out our friends location and decide if at all it’s convenient to meet right now.

One more feature of FMF 4.0 is that it is optimized for iOS 8 firmware. So if you have an iPhone 5s, 5c, 5, 4s, iPad 2 and over, or iPod Touch 5G… you can run this app smoothly with less crashes.

The earlier Find My Friends version was updated in 2013. Since then we haven’t seen even a minor change to the app. Design and features of the app remain as it is even in this newer version.

If you have used the Find My Friends beta version and compare it to this new version, you will notice some of the major problems are fixed. For example, in the beta Find My Friends, nick names of your friends were displayed on the screen. Now, latest version of Find My Friends displays real names. Security issues have been fixed, too.

If you have loved Find My Friends before, we see no reason why you shouldn’t upgrade to the newer version right now. If you have already uninstalled or never installed it, here is the App Store link of Find My Friends app.

How to Update Find My Friends: To install this new update, launch the App Store and search for Find My Friends. It’s developed by Apple and one can download it for free.

Note that you have to turn the location ON for this app to work, which may drain your battery, especially if you are using iPhone 4s. It’s also important to note that you should have the correct contact names and email address in iCloud to obtain the real names of your friends.

Lastly, we don’t see any major problems with Find My Friends. The notification alerts to let our friends know about the current location works just fine, and the map always points to the right location.
