At the Spring Forward keynote event held on March 9th, Apple announced two crucial updates. First, talking about physical products, we saw Apple launching the new Macbook Pro (12″ notebook) along with the Apple Watch.
Second, talking about iOS firmware, we saw Apple launching the new iOS 8.2 update. It’s the update we all have been waiting for. And in this post, we will reveal to you everything you need to know about this 8.2 update.
What’s New in iOS 8.2?
iOS 8.2 update focuses entirely on fixing security issues and improving the operating system’s stability. So now if you were fed up with the older iOS 8 firmware like iOS 8.1.3 or iOS 8.1, this new update is the fuel your device needs. But that’s not all.
iOS 8.2 has few useful features worth mentioning. First, it adds improvement to the Health app. If you have been using this free app before, this time you will notice significant changes. In fact, the Health app is more accurate than before. Plus, it also gives you the option to select weight and measure blood glucose, your body temperature, height, and distance.
All these are excellent addition to one app. And it’s crystal clear that, with each passing day, Apple will focus more on fitness and lifestyle.
Another important addition to iOS 8.2 is related to security. Now, it isn’t exactly exciting, but iOS 8.2 firmware fixes all the minor and major problems. Problems with bluetooth calling, timezone issues, incorrect Map details, calendar issues, restoration problems and much more are rectified.
Mail, Music, and Map apps in iOS 8.2 have seen stability improvements. Here is the complete changelog and the release notes of iOS 8.2:
Is It Safe To Upgrade To iOS 8.2?
So the ultimate question is this: should you upgrade your device to iOS 8.2? In all fairness, if you want to upgrade, go ahead and do it. We, like Apple, believe a software update is always good.
For users interested in jailbreaking their iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches… you may want to wait before upgrading your iOS devices to 8.2 update.
Few iOS 8.2 Problems
From what we have seen so far, iOS 8.2 comes with a small set of problems. Let’s not even talk about performance issues – it’s too early at this point of time.
One of the biggest iOS 8.2 problem is related to WiFi. In fact, since iOS 8, users have found those WiFi interruptions incredibly annoying. And such complaints remain even in this version.
Another problem is related to battery. iOS 8.2 doesn’t solve existing battery issues. In fact, going by what other users are saying, battery life is now worse than ever before. We will, however, keep you updated with our tests.
But we are not here to scare you away from moving towards iOS 8.2. It’s important to mention the advantages and the disadvantages so you will have the power to decide whether iOS 8.2 is safe or unsafe for your device.
