Apple removed 2G/3G toggle switch from iOS 8, leaving iPhones & iPad users disappointed and frustrated. Now, let’s thank our fortune, as we Apple users now have the power to choose the data network we desire.
The new iOS 8.1 update (which is in beta) allows you to switch between 2G/3G/4G network through its Cellular menu available under Settings. There is no OFF and ON switch, but a list of options to select from.
Tereko left a comment on our post explaining that a secret menu allows you to switch from 3G to 2G Internet with iOS 8.1. Through several email conversations, we received the instructions and a picture proving that yes, finally, it is possible to connect to the Internet over 2G, 3G, or 4G.
How to Enable or Disable 2G/3G in iOS 8
Note that you can enable 2G only if your carrier network supports it.
Follow these steps to turn ON 2G:
- Go to Settings
- Tap on Cellular
- Select Voice & Data
- Choose 2G (or 3G or 4G)
So there you have it – 2G/3G toggling option for your iOS devices!
And what are the benefits of choosing 2G/EDGE/GPRS network? It’s cheap, vastly used, and in some ways better than 3G/4G as it saves battery from draining quickly.
