iOS 8 Download

Last updated: October 8, 2014 at 11:02 am

Note: Stable iOS 8 firmware will be released in the second week of September. Go to “iOS 8 Release Date” page for more details.

As you are here, it is most likely that you are looking to download iOS 8 firmware on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. In this page you will find the download links, but first you have to understand something that’s slightly more important. If you already know this (which you probably do), then we suggest you go straight to the download section.

However, to be on the safer side, we recommend you to keep reading every word on this page, as it will help you understand more about iOS 8 firmware and get the right firmware version you want.

Before You Download iOS 8

You have to “prepare” yourself. That’s the first step before downloading iOS 8 on your Mac or Windows computer. But how can you prepare? Well, you must do these two things: first, you have to make sure your device is compatible with the iOS 8 firmware.

You can go to our iOS 8 compatibility page for more details. Once you have confirmed that your device supports iOS 8, your next step is to decide who you are.

Wait. Who you are? Sounds silly? Probably, but it’s important.

If you know who you are (you do, right?) then it is easy to download the proper iOS 8 firmware file. Let me get to the point — when I ask you that, what I really mean is that you are either a…

Consumer of iOS 8… Or Developer For iOS 8

Makes sense? Remember this:

A consumer has to download iOS 8 stable version. While a developer has a choice to either download the stable or beta version of iOS 8.

Note that to install iOS 8 beta version, one must have a developer account with Apple. It’s a paid account that cost around $100.

Say, for example, you have an iPhone 5 and you have gone through our compatibility page. You now know that your iPhone supports iOS 8, and that’s great. Next, if you are a consumer (which most of us are), you are now ready to download iOS 8 on your computer. The next section should make it easier for you.

How To Download iOS 8

Now that you know that your Apple device supports iOS 8, and you know your “type”, the next step is to download iOS 8.

Within these pages you will find download links to iOS 8 and also the instructions to install iOS files with or without iTunes. We have intentionally avoided giving you alternate links or torrent links to minimize the confusion.

One more thing.

We received a question from our reader saying that someone is charging “$20” to download and install iOS 8 firmware on her iPhone 5. Upon further email exchanges, I was told that one of the computer technician was offering this service.

In reality, iOS 8 is free to download. And, if you follow the instructions, installation is absolutely easy! Bottom line: If you see anyone online offering the new iOS 8 firmware for a price, ignore it.

There was a short time Apple was charging for iOS firmware download, but it was only limited for iPod Touch owners. With years, Apple has realized that iOS 8 software should be always free, as it “welcomes” users to download the firmware, which ultimately leads to more satisfied customers (and more profits).
