Avoid WhatsApp Crash By Not Typing These Letters

Last updated: September 22, 2014 at 23:05 pm

If you are wondering why is your WhatsApp crashing after sending a message to your friends, then we suggest you to step back and look at the message(s) again.

There is a good chance that the message thread contains the following combination of letters: “fi” “ff” “tt”

What’s wrong with them?

Apparently, when you use any of those letters in your outgoing message, it forces WhatsApp Messenger to crash unexpectedly.

It’s not a “fresh” problem. In fact, on iOS 8 beta we faced the exact issue while using our iPhones and iPads. After a few weeks, though, WhatsApp team fixed the issue with a new update.

But you know what? Another recent WhatsApp update (v2.11.11) is causing the app to crash again.

Here are a few tweets confirming the problem:

@WhatsApp crashes on iOS 8, if your conversation contains the following combinations “ff” , “fi” or “tt” – @PlumNight
If you have any conversation contain these letters “ff”, “fi” or “tt” – @Bassemlife
Do NOT update to iOS 8 yet… Unless you want to experience an annoying Whatsapp crash that happens every time u type ff, fi, or tt. Weird. – ‏@emirastar

Temporary Solution: Do not type the letters “fi” “ff” “tt” in your WhatsApp message box.

Of course, we need a permanent solution or a fix that could make WhatsApp on iOS 8 do its primary job well — to send and receive messages without any problems. And for that, we have to wait for yet another update from the WhatsApp team.

Note: This is not the only reason why WhatsApp iOS app crashes on your iPhones, iPads, or iPod Touch. This is just one among the many. We have been told that WhatsApp quits immediately after hitting the “send” button on iPad.

As an iOS developer, I can confirm. I am sure WhatsApp is already working to fix this problem, and the only question is when we will get the next update. Hopefully soon.
