Sunil asks: I want to delete all the Apple apps from my new iPhone 6 as I don’t find them useful. So is there any easy way to get rid of these apps permanently, so that my homescreen looks clean?
Answer: If you want to delete any app or game downloaded from the Apple Store, the procedure is fairly simple.
You can start by tapping on the icon. This shakes the icons with a “x” mark at the top. Clicking this “x” mark will permanently erase the app from your iOS device.
But of course, this doesn’t answer your main question.
Because other default apps (also called as native apps) cannot be removed by tapping on the icons. I have also even written an article explaining why you cannot delete Tips app from your devices.
That article created quite a buzz due to the misleading title. Because, in short, you cannot delete the default apps in iOS 8 / iOS 9.
So what’s the solution?
Instead of deleting, there are ways to hide the default Apple maps – like Notes, Apple Maps, Clock, Reminder, etc – on your iPhone and iPad.
For jailbroken devices:
Deleting apps is not recommended as it can mess up your device. But if you want to hide selected apps? Then you can use Springtomize.
It’s a free tweak that allows you to customize your iOS. To install, go to Cydia -> search Springtomize and get this free tweak. After this, follow the steps outlined below for hiding your iOS apps permanently:
- Open Springtomize
- Tap on “Icons”
- Scroll and look for “Hide Icons” section
- Select “Hide Icons”
- Select the apps you would like to hide.
- Now go back to Springtomize and tap “Respring.”
Based on your request, the default and third-party applications and games will be hidden forever.
For non-jailbroken devices:
The most simple solution is to create a folder – can be called “junk” or “trash” – and put all the apps / games in this folder.
If you don’t know how to create a folder, follow the steps outlined here: Create folders on your iPhone / iPad
The only problem is that this folder will be visible. So you can place it somewhere in the corner of the page.
So these are the two simple and easy ways to hide the default iOS apps when you cannot erase them from your Apple devices.
