So how do you really chat on Facebook without installing the Facebook Messenger app? Or do we have any “workaround” to check messages right from the original Facebook app? The answers might surprise you.
We have the solutions, and it is going to help you access Facebook messages without having to download Facebook Messenger on your iOS device.
If you have an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch running the latest Facebook app, you are already frustrated (and probably even annoyed) with the painful features added by the Facebook team. (If you don’t know what this is about, check the article: New Facebook app forces users to download FB Messenger)
But there is yet another problem with Facebook app on iOS devices.
You will notice that installing Facebook Messenger dramatically slows down the functioning of the original Facebook app. On iPhone 5, which was fully loaded with apps, the Facebook timeline was dead-slow. Sometimes there was a blank timeline whenever we launched the Facebook app. Photos didn’t load. And many times, crashing and freezing was a frequent affair. Same was the case with iPhone 4S and iPod Touch device.
Now, wouldn’t it make our life easier if we knew how to “de-attach” the integrated experience of Facebook app and Facebook Messenger app? What I really mean is, would you like to know how to access Facebook messages without installing Messenger? Yes? Here are the solutions.
Solution #1: Use iOS Jailbreak App
Immediately click on the Facebook’s Message button (located between the Friend Request and the Notification button) and you will be asked to install the Facebook Messenger app.
The message reads like this: “Get Started With Messenger.”
Next paragraph in that “promotion” page goes on like this: “Messenger is just as fast as texting, but with much more. You can even take photos and videos right in the app.”
So what’s the solution? Simply use a jailbreak tweak that gives you the permission to access messages (and chat with your friends) on Facebook without installing the Facebook Messenger.
Yep, it’s possible and it will take you only a few seconds. Here’s what you have to do:
First, make sure your iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch is jailbroken. Note that, at the time of writing this article, jailbreak is only available for iOS 7 firmware. iOS 8 users — you are out of luck! Let’s follow these instructions:
Step 1: Launch Cydia app on your iOS device.
Step 2: Go to search and type the following: FBNoNeedMessenger
Step 3: Install FBNoNeedMessenger.
The repository is BigBoss, so you don’t have to add any new Sources or make any other changes. There is no need to configure anything. Simply installing FBNoNeedMessenger is more than enough.
Next, open Facebook app — now you can read the messages and chat with your friends, as that unusual message to “install” Facebook Messenger is no longer visible.
Note: If you have installed the FB Messenger app, you will be redirected there when you tap on the Message. The trick here is to uninstall the Messenger app for the jailbreak app to work smoothly.
Solution #2: Use Facebook Mobile Website
What can you do if you are using a non-jailbroken iOS device, and still want to access Facebook messages through the mobile app? The solution is simple.
You have to take the “hard” route, which is to use Facebook’s mobile website on your browser.
Go to Safari and type m.facebook.com — and you will be taken to the mobile version of Facebook. In here, you have to type your username and password to access your profile.
You will be taken to your Facebook account, from where you can normally access Facebook messages and text your friends. Note that this is a simple yet “working” method that is, in our experience, better than downgrading Facebook app to an older version.
You see, Facebook Messenger works, and it works well for some people. But there are a bunch of us out there that prefer the “old” ways of doing things.
Why fix when it’s not broken?
Using any one of the two methods will help you in many ways. As you will note, bypassing the mandatory installation process of Facebook Messenger leaves room more storage space and, more importantly, you will be able to check Facebook messages right inside the app.
You will be able to do what you did previously, on the older Facebook apps. And that feels good!
